AB OBJECTIVES: To mobilize 16 Secondary School children for peer education
and community AIDS activities. To promote participatory education on
AIDS prevention through folk media/drama within rural areas. METHODS: To
launch anti-AIDS clubs within 16 Secondary schools. Trained peer
educators i.e. students officials and teachers, club patrons for every
16 Secondary schools. Develop AIDS prevention messages to such folk &
drama. RESULTS: 6 months later after KESPA posed questionnaires to 16
schools. In 10 of them 80% are aware of the preventive measures, 20
believed it to be a traditional disease - CHIRA. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION:
Many youths could now prevent the scourge and this could be achieved
when peer education is encouraged. This could be applied to youth
outside school.
